Title:

"Bayesian Analysis: From Theory To Practice"

Abstract:

During the last century, the Frequencist approach has dominated the field of statistics and its applications. However, the past two decades have witnessed the rising of an alternative approach, called Bayesian statistics. In this presentation, I will briefly review the Bayesian reasoning and provide a 'simple' application to a dataset related with the genetic behaviour of the Idd10 locus controlling the susceptibility to type I diabetes in mice.

"Cheating and Policing in Antibiotic Resistance: bacteria play an evolutionary game of 'cops and robbers'"

Abstract:

Cooperative systems are often prone to cheating, where cheating individuals take disproportionate fitness advantages by benefiting from a collectively-produced common good without contributing to its production. In this case, this scenario is applied to a specific case of plasmid-borne antibiotic resistance and the effect of cheaters in a population of this type, as well as some possible cheating-policing mechanisms, are explored experimentally.
